I have worked this problem out completely for my quality management course. I am not totally comfortable with my answer. Can someone please help me?

You have obtained the following data from a gauge R & R study The gauge is properly calibrated and the operators are trained. You carefully observed the process and did not observe any assignable causes for error.

(I calculated the averages

a. calculate EV

b. calculate OV

c. calculate RR

d. given that the tolerance for the measurement is 1.010 +/- 0.015, calculate the RR as a percentage of tolerance

e. Is the measurement system acceptable? Explain

Step 1 calculate x bar for each operator: (see above) Operator 1 = 1.0088

Operator 2 = 1.00885

Step 2

Calculate xD = 1.00885 – 1.0088 = .00005

Step 4 Operator 1 R1 Bar = .0018 Operator 2 R2 Bar = .0009

Step 5 Overall Rbarbar = (.0018 + .0009)/2 = .00135

Step 6 R = 2, D1 = 3.267 (from Table 10.1)

Control Limit = 3.267 x .00135 = .00441

None of the individual ranges exceed the control limit.
